REDIMadrid was created in 2003 as an advanced communications infrastructure. It enables high-speed data exchange between research, university and innovation institutions in the Community of Madrid and provides connection with other national and international research networks through RedIRIS.
It is currently one of the most technologically advanced regional research networks in Europe and is operating at full capacity, offering a service geared towards maximum network functionality, scalability, availability and performance.
REDIMadrid is an initiative of the Community of Madrid, specifically its Directorate General for Universities and Research. The initial implementation of the network was carried out by the Foundation for Knowledge Madri+d and currently the entity responsible for its management and development is the IMDEA Software Institute.
The telematic network opens unprecedented communication possibilities for researchers in the Region of Madrid in all their fields of activity, such as high-speed access to multimedia scientific databases, the massive transfer of information in distributed computing applications or the shared use of research equipment. Together with the progressive development of networked research, the network fosters collaboration between institutions, research projects and thematic networks, as well as the approach and direct interaction in real time with other researchers in international centres.
