The transmission infrastructure deployed has a triple ring structure (with capacity leasing on one side and dark optical fibers), is implemented with DWDM technology for its performance, flexibility and growth capacity.
The structure establishes a redundant link from each main connection point to the REDIMadrid Central Node, which is located at the CTI of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the CIEMAT..
Each institution connected to the ring topology has a protected optical carrier with speeds from 1Gb/s to 10Gb/s between the institutions and the REDIMadrid Central Node of CSIC. The direct connection by dark optical fiber also has redundant optical carriers in this case between the institutions and the main REDIMadrid nodes of CSIC and CIEMAT, all this allows:
For a proactive management of the network, information on the status of the links of the network, as well as traffic statistics on these links, is constantly collected, analyzed and compiled.
The MRTG system is in charge of capturing the IP traffic data of each of the links and displays them via Web in a range of 32 hours. For this purpose, it generates daily, weekly and monthly statistics.
As a complement, the NMIS system allows to obtain additional information, offering graphs with interface traffic, response times, memory usage, and interface availability and reachability calculations. It allows managing the status of the interfaces and issues alerts through log files of the network status.
The network operation center, physically located at the CSIC Technical Computer Center (CTI-CSIC), is responsible for the supervision and resolution of incidents throughout the network.

There are mailing lists that open a fast and secure communication channel for the follow-up and implementation of the different services:
1. NETWORK_OPERATION: Includes people related to the network operation of the entities connected to REDIMadrid. It is used to report incidents of a general nature, give warnings, news or any other notification of general interest.
2. COORDINATORS: List of coordinators for the network in the different entities. These coordinators are the people who can be contacted for information or clarifications in case of incidents related to an institution.
REDIMadrid has a service desk for the resolution of incidents of any kind 24 hours a day during the 7 days of the week.
Likewise, there are different systems for the notification of any anomaly in the network, which enables an adequate management and monitoring of the incidents, in order to solve them as soon as possible.
